RULES AND REGULATIONS
Eligibility
The event is open to individuals of all races and nationalities.
The Organizers reserve the right to reject applications for whatever reason without having to justify their decision.
Registration Fee
Please refer to the participant form for 2010 registration fee.
* The Organizer reserve the right to reject participation entries based on the quota and racer eligibility. In the event of a rejection on the part of the Organizer, any payment recieved will be refunded in full.
Liability
The organizers will not be responsible for any claims or actions whatsoever by the entrant, his/her heirs, executors or assignees arising from any injury suffered by him/her or any loss or damage to property associated with his/her participation in the "Perhentian Island Challenge - 2010".
Decisions
In the event of any dispute the decision of the organizers will be final.
Protests
The event should be regarded as a ' fun ' event and is held for the enjoyment of all participants. Any protest is discouraged. Should participants wish to protest against some other participant's unfair practice the protest should be lodged at ' Race Control ' within 30 minutes of the protesting participant finishing time.
Protests may be made orally but confirmed in writing and accompanied by a deposit of RM100 at the 'Race Control '. The protest shall be made in a discrete and respectful manner. Any public protest or unsportsmanlike behavior from a participant will result in disqualification of that participant.
The event organizers shall solely determine the outcome of the protest. Should the protest be upheld the deposit will be returned, however should the protest - not be successful the deposit will be forfeited. The Event is open to participants of all status. There will be two categories i.e. Novice and Elite.
Identification
Participants must display their entry number during the competition by using the armband/number patch or number written on their body with indelible insert. The racing vest provided shall be worn over any equipment carried by the competitor including; over backpacks, camelpaks or any carried equipment throughout the race. Should the number be torn or lost or indistinct they must report it immediately to an official to rectify the situation.
Waiver
Every competitor must sign a copy of the rules, a liability waiver and an image release before being allowed to compete.
Personal Health - fitness
Every competitor is solely responsible for his/her involvement in the competition. He/she shall be the sole judge as to whether he/she should continue competing or not. Furthermore the organizer reserves the right (with or without the consultation of a doctor), to bar a competitor from starting or continuing the race.
Competitors may carry food and/or energy supplements with them around the course.
Personal Health - hydration
Considering the temperature and humidity in Malaysia, the competitor should be aware of the risks of dehydration and take every precaution to prevent it from occurring.
Water will be provided at the transition points between race disciplines.
Competitors may carry water/energy drinks with them around the course.
Personal Health - sunstroke
The swimming and kayaking disciplines involve being exposed the sun without any protection. Competitors must take precautions to prevent sunburn etc.
Competitors may carry sunscreen creams etc. with them around the course.
Performance enhancing drugs/stimulants
The use of performance enhancing drugs/stimulants is not allowed and any evidence of use will result in the disqualification of the competitor.
Course
The organizers reserve the right to add, modify, cancel or change the course at any time. The course consists of various sections. Each section must be completed by the competitor before starting the next section.
Trail Running
In team events, the team members must run and reach each checkpoint together. If one member reaches the checkpoint first he must wait for his other team partner before he is allowed to proceed.
Racer Required Items
Participant of the Perhentian Island Challenge are required to bring their own hydration packs or water bottle , swimming goggles , running shoes, cap, hat or sunshades, sun protection (sun block/lotion), gloves.
Competition Timing
Timing will be by hand using stopwatches and coordinated through Walkie Talkie communication. In the event of a tie, a tie-breaker will be arranged to determine the winner and the judgment of the official will be final.
Timing will be controlled from the Central Control Point and the time clock of the organizers will be the official time clock.
Disqualification
Failure to abide by the rules of the competition will result in immediate disqualification by officials.
Cut Off Times
Cut off times will be declared at the start of the race in the final briefing. As some parts of the course may be dangerous in failing light conditions, participants may not be allowed to continue on that part of the course. The organizers reserve the right to alter these times should changes in circumstances arise.
Disposal of Rubbish
Participants will be carrying water and power gel with them around the course. If participants are caught discarding water bottles or other rubbish in non authorized places they may be subject to disqualification.
